The Serpentine Jarrahdale Landcare Centre hosted to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Landcare SJ Inc a not-for-profit community organisation.
The Australian Government defines an AGM as – “a meeting held once a year that all members of a charity are invited to attend. The purpose of an AGM is to give members a report on the charity’s activities and finances for the previous year, to allow time for members to ask questions, and to elect members of your governing body (e.g. board or committee members) for the coming year”.
The Landcare SJ Annual General Meeting is so much more than that as we celebrate the year’s achievements, our volunteers and friends, new and old partnerships, and building new relationships.
This slide show was produced by the staff at Landcare SJ to showcase its activities from the year.

Some words from the annual report-
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Dr David Lindsay, Chairmans report- It is 15 years now since the Landcare activities in Serpentine Jarrahdale were formed into the incorporated body, Landcare SJ Inc. Those 15 years give us a base to reflect on the organisation, what it had achieved, its highs and lows and how it is shaping for the future. It was originally set up to act as the resource centre to cater for the very strong desire in the region to promote and preserve the natural environment in coexistence with inevitable and increasing urbanisation. It is not an exaggeration to say that this last year, 2016-17, sees Landcare SJ in its strongest position yet to achieve these goals…[/perfectpullquote]
During August 2017 Chair of the Landcare SJ Board, Prof. David Lindsay, and Board member Jan Star sign a new three-year agreement on landcare service delivery in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. The Agreement will deliver approximately $750,000 of cash and in kind support to Landcare SJ over three years. In turn, Landcare SJ should be able to generate two to three times this amount through grant funding and volunteer contributions.
The winner is the community through enhanced and protected biodiversity values.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Francis Smit, Executive Officers report- ‘By the community, for the community’ – that’s the motto of the SJ Community Landcare Centre. And so we must recognise that our success is a reflection of the community’s success. This is a community in which people give up enormous amounts of time, freely provide their expertise and do a variety of things, not for themselves as such, but for others to enjoy and benefit from. It is a collective action, facilitated by the staff at the Landcare Centre, who support local groups to realise their on-ground landcare goals.[/perfectpullquote]
Community groups and volunteers are the backbone behind conservation work in the Serpentine Jarrahdale area. Landcare SJ thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm and look forward to working with you all in the future.
