2018 Planting Season

In Serpentine Jarrahdale, almost 90% of the native vegetation has been removed on the Swan Coastal Plain (the area west of the Scarp). Across the whole of SJ (including the Scarp), there is only half of the original vegetation remaining.

Great importance therefore needs to be placed on the natural areas remaining. The lack of native vegetation highlights a community need that is often not defined and almost never valued in a monetary sense.

The presence of natural plant communities provides 'ecosystem services' to human communities, including regulation of air and water quality; safe storage of carbon; modification to local weather conditions; shade and shelter; and positive impacts on mental health.

Landcare SJ is very proud of the sites that we work at with the community .
