This project is a fee for service provided to Brookfield Rail, and represents a partnership with them, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. This project will run until 2018 and focuses on the restoration of significant plant communities located at the project site, through controlled burning and weed control.

The area has been divided into 5 cells by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Emergency Services – 2 cells were burnt in 2015 and 2 in 2016.

The last cell contains Declared Rare Flora and will be burnt in autumn 2017.
Flora monitoring

Six 2x2m and one 10x10m flora plots have been established in partnership with the Department of Parks and Wildlife for monitoring native flora recovery after fire.

Photo points have also been established for monitoring purposes.
Weed control

To enable native species recovery, weed control has been carried out before and after the controlled burns; this will continue, to minimise the re-colonisation of weed species, particularly in the burnt areas.

There has been excellent native regeneration in the burnt areas, with a colonising grass species Austrostipa commutata thriving, thus reducing the likelihood of weed invasion.
