Join Our Community of Volunteers

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our landcare efforts. From restoring local ecosystems to monitoring rare wildlife, your time and passion create a tangible impact. Whether you’re a seasoned expert or just beginning your environmental journey, there’s a place for you in our groups.  Register to be notified about our annual planting program in June and July or help water seedlings over the hot summer months and of course there is also weeding to be done.

Alternatively, if you are passionate about a bushland area near you and would like to start a Friends of Group to restore the area get in touch.  We can assist with training, equipment, and grant writing.

A new initiative is the creation of a group dedicated to the conservation of Black Cockatoos within the SJ Shire.  The Black Cockatoo Conservation Action Group will focus on activities from planting forage plants, monitoring of Cockatubes, helping with Citizen Science projects to record roosting sites and education programs for car strike and Raven attack.

Our Volunteer Groups

Jarrahdale Heritage Park Volunteers

Following the closure of the timber mill in 1997 the area became infested with weeds including the wattle (Acacia decurrens), cotton bush, blackberry, pampas grass, arum lily and bridle creeper.

By 2012 it was not possible to see the creek from the Jarrahdale Road and several feral cats had taken up residence. In July 2013 a group of residents, including Charles Kerfoot, began the physical work of removing woody weeds and the restoration of the Gooralong Brook started to take shape.

The Heritage Society partners with LandcareSJ to obtain grants, mainly from NRM and including the in-kind contribution from the community.

The Jarrahdale Heritage Park Volunteers meet each Tuesday. The group consists mainly of Jarrahdale people, but we also get others coming in from time to time including travellers and young people interested in environmental land care.

We set ourselves a task: removing wattle and other weeds, cutting firewood, planting, usually for no more than 3 hours and finish with a friendly cup of coffee or tea.

Serpentine Enviro Group

The SEG meets every Tuesday at 8.30 winter & 8am Summer for 1 hour. Our activities include planting, watering, whipping, weeding, mulching, tidying and picking up rubbish depending on the site we are attending.

We are a small friendly group who do this in the Serpentine area, parks, cemetery and roadside.

Life is busy so if you can only join and attend every now and then we are ok with that. Our volunteers are all local so if you are looking to meet new people and chat about the area please call Karen 0407971532

Friends of Brickwood Reserve

Brickwood Reserve is an environmentally significant bushland area located in Byford, within the Shire of Serpentine–Jarrahdale in Western Australia. Covering around 50 hectares, the reserve preserves one of the largest remaining examples of critically endangered open Marri and Kingia woodland on the Swan Coastal Plain

Despite its proximity to suburban development, the reserve offers a natural refuge where visitors can explore walking trails through remnant bushland, enjoy seasonal wildflowers and engage with the local landscape. It is a popular site for recreation, environmental education and community conservation activities, with the local friends of group actively involved in restoring habitat, monitoring flora and managing threats such as weeds and dieback.

Friends of Korribinjal Reserve

Korribinjal Reserve is a small but ecologically significant bushland area located near Jarrahdale and Mundijong in Western Australia, within the Shire of Serpentine–Jarrahdale. Set within the scenic Serpentine Valley region, the reserve protects a section of the Korribinjal Brook catchment and forms part of a wider network of natural bushland and conservation areas in the Darling Range foothills.

Come join local residents continuing the legacy of the past volunteers, Karnet Prisoners and Fairbridge School kids in caring for this unique patch of bush.
